So I’m finally done! My album “SoulinyaBowl” is released for the world to hear and yea, I’m relieved to have a finished product and tangible measure of my work but, I can’t help but feel slightly off. Everything is right, but doesn’t feel right yet. In retrospect now, it seems like I was content with the process of making the album rather than actually having a finished album. Strange, but definitely explainable. It goes back to something thats always heard a lot. A piece of advice that is told to us or that we hear from where or whoever happens to
be relaying wisdom. It is along the lines of “It’s not the destination, but the journey that is what is important”. Through making this album, I’ve found real truth in this.

I found fulfillment in the process of reworking song structure, finding samples, making sure the audience hears the right things at the right times. I found enjoyment in thinking of ways to sound unique, to sound familiar, and to sound fresh. I found contentment in letting the select few check some unfinished ideas, see what they think, get feedback and what not. There was pleasure in knowing when a track wasn’t done and needed something else. There really was. It meant more time for me to be submerged in my music, at one with my creation. So yea, I know I’ll keep creating music and beats and I may not feel completely right without a album to work on for a bit, but it’s OK. A little downtime is never bad. More time to develop future projects and ideas!

Too philosophical for experimental Hip-hop beats? I think not. Look at history’s greats in what ever field and you’ll see that their passion for whatever they were doing,( whether it be profound, mundane, or unacceptable by peers), was monumental. They had
the strive and heart to do what they believed in and was one of the reasons why they became, greats. I, in no way or form, am a great. More or less from my experiences and people that I know that are, greats in my terms, is why I bring this up.

It’s important that I thank my friends and supporters. Without which I would not have been able to make this album. Your inspiration on me was directly and indirectly used to create music. Special thanks to Charlie Rosenbury, Kevin Ehlers, The Spacetones, Dj Geeg, The Verbs Redux, Jimmy Spits, The Nocturnal Doses, [Reset], and anyone at all involved with, around, or a fan
of LemonDrop Records.I feel blessed to have friends and family as well to support my work. They know who they are.

That’s it for me.
Everyone have a happy holidays.Enjoy the album, “SoulinyaBowl” in the media section of this site along with all the other great albums from the artist of LemonDrop Records.

Peace,

Greeting peeps, e$money here.

Just want to remind everyone that this Friday, December 19, Chuck (1 part [reset], one part co-owner/creative head of LemonDrop, one part bag-0-cool) and I (probably not cool enough for parts) will be celebrating his 23rd birthday and the release of my brand spankin’ new album , “SoulinyaBowl”.

This will be held at the Padstead (Charlie’s place) and festivities will start around 10:00 p.m. My album will played in its entirety with many of the LemonDrop crew possibly adding in the aural orgasm fest of the evening. Come for drinks, cake, balloons ,tunes, and an album (not to mention a special little guy) that I’m extremely proud of.

For directions or any other inquiries, hit me up at soulinyabowl@hotmail.com or refer to the facebook group for more info. Hope to see everybody Friday for tasty beats and tasty birthdays.

PEACE,

We’ve been all kinds of busy here at LemonDrop getting our bands all over the social networks throughout the interweb. It’s been fun seeing the reactions from people at each site as we get songs posted left and right, but one site in particular has found Anna and the X’s climbing the charts. It’s thesixtyone.com, and while Chuck and I are both admittedly obsessed with the site, building up points on our own profiles, we’ve also kept close tabs on the progress of each of our bands and in just a week, Anna’s song “Across the Sea” got bumped 553 times and made the front page. I think we may have found Anna’s first single from her new album, eh?

If you enjoy the site digg.com, think of The Sixty One as digg, but with music. And, if you’re looking for the next site online you can become obsessed with, we highly recommend The Sixty One. Now head over and check out Anna and the X’s Sixty One page!

We’ve added a new album to the media page: Anna & The X’s self-titled release. From Columbia, MO, Anna & The X’s are a young group with styles ranging from folk to acapella blues. From an earlier review of lead singer and writer Anna Fliescher by Dave at Rawkblog:

Anna Fleischer is a an artist, musician, college student, and remarkable new voice. From the first time I heard her blue-throated, jazz-inflected singing, I knew she had talent, and she has yet to prove me wrong. Fleischer’s recorded material is acoustic folk with some jazz overtones a la Joni Mitchell, though unlike the meandering Mitchell, Fleischer often goes right for the hook. These are songs of love, relationships, life…music for road trips and rainy days alike.

So head over to the media page and give a listen to the newest member of the LemonDrop family.

Well, for all who are wondering where the hell The Verbs have been for the last month or so, we’re actually…no more. Well, not really “no more,” but definitely reincarnated in more ways than one. Read a bit more and I’ll explain everything:

The title “The Verbs” was trouble to begin with; after deciding on the name in the beginning, we did a MySpace search only to find another band in New York already had been using the name. However, we really dug it, so we decided to use it anyway. About two months ago, after a recent explosion of local interest in the band and realization of the online support we were receiving from our MySpace page, the other Verbs’ manager finally called us up and said the name had to go. Reluctantly, we changed the name. Sort of. The word “Redux” is latin for “brought back/revisited/returned,” so what better way to keep the same old feel of The Verbs than by simply adding a beautiful word to the ending. Even John Updike used the word in the title of his second book about Harry “Rabbit” Angstrom in the Rabbit Novels tetrology (Rabbit Redux). So, yes, we’ve got a new name: The Verbs (Redux). (Yes, the word redux does appear in parenthesis.)

Also, our MySpace page just up and disappeared a few weeks ago, so I made a new one today: www.myspace.com/theverbsredux

And what’s a new name without a new face to go along with it? Ben, our brave and determined bassist, who had been driving down to Springfield for weekly practices and shows all the way from Mizzou for the last nine months, also decided to call it quits at the beginning of April. Gas has gotten too expensive, and it just wasn’t worth it to him anymore, so he left. After a few days of thinking about what to do as a band, we were left with the overriding feeling that there was still a lot more music left in our bones. We decided to not let Ben’s absence keep us from proceeding, and we began the search for a bassist.

Enter Ryan Spilken.

Ryan Spilken, formerly/currently of Ilijiah, has been around the Springfield music scene for a while now (he’s twenty-eight, but don’t tell him I told you), and he’s got the goods to prove it. Ryan joined the band this week, and we finished our first practice tonight. Needless to say, I’m happy as a clam; he’s an amazing singer, musician, and songwriter, and he loves our tunes and style. Ryan’s really got his shit together–he learns SO FAST–and we couldn’t be more excited to have him aboard.

We’ve got out first show scheduled already–July 5 at The Outland. It’ll be Ryan’s debut with the band, and we’re already plugging away with new material for our second album, which we hope to record as soon as laster this summer.

The Verbs (Redux): New name, new faces, same music.
