The record industry is falling apart, dying from the inside out, and becoming altogether tainted by greed and manipulation of its artists.
It’s no surprise people have turned to fighting the system, bending some rules and blatantly ignoring others. This is the current state of the music industry, but it doesn’t have to be its future. And it won’t be if LemonDrop and the fans have anything to do with it.

LemonDrop Records aims to combat the death of the music industry not through controversy, but through common sense and creative thinking.
Giving the limelight back to the bands that create the music, LemonDrop Records is a place where music is given room to breathe and given the attention all great music deserves. It is a place where control is given back to the fans with our “pay what you want” pricing model. Add to this the fact that all our music is released under the Creative Commons Attribution Non-commercial (by-nc) License and fans now can not only listen to their favorite LemonDrop artist’s music, but also add their own creative twist to any song they wish. Want to remix a Spacetones’ song to show your DJ skills off? Go for it. Want to make a music video for one of The Verbs’ new songs? Film away. With the Creative Commons license attached to all our music, the possibilities are endless and it’s up to the fans to come up with the next creative twist to a LemonDrop artist’s song.

While the music industry is struggling to figure out what to do with this whole interweb nonsense, LemonDrop is embracing it the best we can.
There’ll be forums for fans to share stories and their creations, and LemonDrop will truly become a community of bands and fans alike. Look for podcasts, blogging, remix contests, fan influenced A&R sections and so much more in the near future. For now we’ll promise to bring you the best music we can from some of the most down to Earth, cool musicians we know, as long as you the fans promise to join us with your own Creative Commons creations along the way and help make the LemonDrop revolution something the music industry won’t be able to ignore.
