The Spacetones have finally got a tracklist and a plan set out for the release of the first (proper) album. The record is going to be called “Moon Tunes” and will hopefully be finished and ready for your listening enjoyment by March. Below is the tracklist for the album–many of the songs you might have already heard, while a few will be pleasant surprises for all. Aaron is busy composing some choice artwork for the cover and liner notes. We look forward to seeing what you guys think!

Peace!

Casey

Casey’s Top 5 Hip-Hop Records of 2007!

December 13th, 2007 by sockrateez

Here it is, folks. It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for…what does Casey think are the best hip-hop records of 2007? Well, here is the answer, friends. And YES, they are in order!

1. Wu-Tang Clan - 8 Diagrams

Oh jeez. I just got this record a few days ago and it only took two listens for me to deem it record of the year. All of the MCs are at the top of their game, and the RZA is cranking out beats that should make him a legend (who am I kidding, he is a legend!).

2. Camp Lo - In Black Hollywood

I really started getting into Camp Lo this year when they released this ridiculously funky record. These two MCs effectively tear up a microphone, and the beats are perfect for both house parties and dance floors.

3. Oh No - Dr. No’s Oxperiment

An all instrumental record, this little brother of Madlib cranks out beats laced with everything from psychedelic rock to acid jazz and eastern music. There is nothing this cat can’t accomplish with a sampler and a drum machine.

4. M.I.A. - Kala

What can I say about this chick besides…wow! I’m not sure if she really belongs on this list because she isn’t necessarily hip-hop all the time, but dammit I’m gonna put her here. If you want super deep bass kicks and wild garage tempos, then M.I.A. is all for you.

5. Common - Finding Forever

Although Common has been receiving quite the attention for the past several years, he still stays true to his style, especially on this album. Kanye’s beats are as strong as ever, but unfortunately he won’t shut his mouth sometimes. Definitely his strongest album since Like Water For Chocolate in 2000.

So there is the list. What would you add?

Verbs Record (update)

Mike and I ninja-recorded some piano at Ellis Hall a week or 2 ago. We’re still finishing up recording with just a handful of vocals to do! And the mixing process has commenced…

11-12-07 006 copy

For the mixing stage, I’ve moved my computer into the sound booth (previously known as my closet.) It sounds incredibly clear; I cannot stress enough how much of a difference a copy environment makes for mixing! I’m working my way through Verbs tracks and I think it’s safe to say the album will be out the door around the new year.

Reset Sees a Little Action

December 1st, 2007 by chuckmo

..or at least our music. In LemonDrop’s mission, we discuss the flexibility of the CC license that allows fans to remix our artists’ music and/or make use of it in their own videos. Well, the first (to my knowledge) videos taking advantage of our open licensing have made their way on to the YouTubes. Rob Lehr of Hambone Productions sent me this video in a Facebook message at the beginning of November of some urban ultimate frisbee action on and around the campus of Missouri State, complete with a dude getting stitches! Sweet.

Enjoy, and thanks, Rob, for giving us a little extra exposure!
