Stephens College “Rock out for Peace”

November 30th, 2007 by jimmyspits

Hey,

So last night gave way to a fun show at Stephens College that included The Run Away Sons from Kansas City. Massive Mouth from Jeff City was also there and put it down nicely. There is something about punk (post punk) and hip-hop that just blend well together. The show was a benefit for a progressive club called lybr’s and a peace organization called Peace Works. There was excessive moshing and CROWD SURFING!! and was really dope. Here are some pics from the event…

Busy Busy Busy

November 28th, 2007 by chuckmo

Hey friends. Things are moving and/or shaking here at LD. The Verbs and Jimmy Spits just got some pretty nice photos taken of them which should be making their MySpace premiere later this week or earlier next week. Reset’s doing a photo shoot tonight at Springfield 8 and Price Cutter Plus which should lead to the update of our mostly defunct MySpace page.

The semester’s wrapping up, so alot of us are keeping pretty busy with school stuff. Personally, I have a few final projects that are going to be taking up alot of my free time. Regardless, we’ll still be shoveling coal into the LD Train for the next few weeks, and we’ll hopefully hit 88mph once winter break gets here!

Reset’s first show in a looooong time is a week from Friday alongside the Verbs. It’s at the Outland, so it’ll be 21+, but all you minors need not fret, as we’ve already begun booking shows for the new year at all-ages venues.

Well, kind of.  Right now we’re a two piece, acoustic guitar and drums, which a lot of you saw when we opened at the Outland Ballroom for the Spacetones and Verbs, but very soon we’ll be a 5-piece with bass, lead guitar, and piano added to the mix.  This has literally been over three years in the making for me, with some songs like “The Apple Tree” and “10,000 Miles” being two or so years old.  At the moment we’ve just slowly gotten verbal, and excited, agreements from our other band members that they wanted to be an Honest Artist (see what I did there?).  So, Joe and I have been busy recording the seven songs we’ve learned together so far for the others to learn parts to.  Since Joe and I get carried away when it comes to music, we recorded two songs barebones, but when we got to “10,000 Miles”, which we rewrote together, and “Epiphany”, which we have the most fun rocking out to, there was no doubt we’d spent unnecessary extra time recording the demo.  They were meant to just be decent recordings to  learn the songs by, but obviously a few ended up being full of multiple vocal tracks, ooh’s and aah’s, shakers, piano drums played by hand, and way more.  I guess this should get most of you excited to see what the final album sounds like since these are just the demos.  I can hear horn and string parts, multiple singing parts all over the place, etc.  Recording the album should be almost as fun as we’ll be having on stage.   I can’t wait!  Here’s the decent sounding, definitely unmixed demos.  Listen for Joe taking over at the end of “10,000 Miles” since we didn’t have time to mix the voices together, my voice occasionally sounding like it’s coming from inside a cave, and the hand played drums on “Epiphany” to screw up towards the first fast part.  Oh well.

Honest Artist is upon us!  See you guys at future shows!

The Mojo’s Show Last Tuesday

November 15th, 2007 by jimmyspits

Hollar,

Yo, this was a phat tuesday indeed. I think everyone involved was suprised when 230 people showed up, all there to support local acts. The freestyle at the very end of the show was lead by Graffiti Out Loud and the mic was blessed by Steddy P. and Root of Two… and me. I can’t wait to do it again with the lemon drop records crew and eventually include all the heavyweights of this region. That being said, it was a good show last Tuesday and I’m happy to share these pictures with you…

Jimmy Spits 11/12/07

November 12th, 2007 by jimmyspits

Hey,

It’s good to be here, and a pleasure to blog on this website. So… I can’t wait until the next show in Springfield, the sound system at Randy Bacon sounds soooo good. I’m looking forward to my show tomorrow at mojo’s. We have handed out 700 flyer’s and posted 100, so I’m excited to see the turn out.

My and Ryan Sublette, my producer, are working on a new album. As we have semi recently released an album this will not even be finished for 3 months or so. The good news is once it is recorded there is no wait before YOU can listen to it. Lemon Drop will have it available for download as soon as it is recorded I imagine.

I go to St. Louis on Thursday and I’m excited about the interview. Riverfront Radio.com is having me on their station and I will talk about the Suburban Myth album and my upcoming show at Stephens college. I will no doubt drop the label’s name and discuss it once I get a chance. The interview will be Thursday, Nov 15 at 7:00pm.

So, that’s where I’m at,

Jimmy

Really? I mean…really?

“New federal legislation says universities must agree to provide not just deterrents but also “alternatives” to peer-to-peer piracy, such as paying monthly subscription fees to the music industry for their students, on penalty of losing all financial aid for their students.”
I was checking Digg tonight when I came across this article about yet another brilliant move by the RIAA, this time coupled with the movie industry. Since when does entertainment trump getting a solid education? Taking away everyone’s financial aid because the university you go to doesn’t comply with “testing alternatives” to downloading music and movies through P2P is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve heard in a long time. There seems to be no real hiding the fact that politicians are being bought here. Any congressman that cares about education would laugh at this proposal. If I was them I’d say “Sorry your industry is dying and you’re all too stubborn to embrace new technology, but these are our kids we’re talking about. Our future, and if you think I’m going to threaten schools and take money away from the kids our future is going to be built on you must be crazy”. Of course, the reality appears to be quite the opposite and that’s sad. I hate getting political, but this was just something that floored me, now being in the music industry myself, and I’m pretty ashamed at the moment to be part of an industry that would make this ultimatum a reality. At least I can sleep better at night knowing we’re working hard here at LemonDrop to truly further the music industry rather than save an admittedly dead business model like is currently being done.

Alright, check out the article and I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts. Leave a comment if you want.

Casey threw his two cents in, now I figured I’d say some tidbits about the show as well.  First off, here a huge thanks from myself, Chuckmo, and everyone at LemonDrop for the support all our fans showed Saturday night.  We had grand plans with this hip hop party/show, and only hoped most of them would come true.  Luckily for us and for everyone, everything went even better than planned, with e$money and The Nocturnal Doses getting great receptions from the crowd.  The Cage Match dueling Nicolas Cage movies confused and excited countless people with it’s brilliance (minus the whole Charlie’s tiny tv crashing to the ground and dying part, but that’s what you get when you have too much Cage).  The giant LemonDrop board was signed by all and completely filled.  Carl painted his little break-dancing heart out and created one cool abstract painting we’ll be thrilled to eventually do something with, whether it be sell it to a LemonDrop fan, or hanging it on the wall in our showcase live painting gallery.  Who knows.  The visualizations by Chuck added immensely and The Spacetones and Jimmy Spits really capped the night off with everyone eventually getting on stage for a freestyle duel only Jimmy and Tommy P could pull off.  The best part of the night, it resulted in good ‘ol Jimmy Spits officially joining the LemonDrop gang, so he’ll be recording with Chuck here really soon.

For now, here’s another huge thanks and I hope this is just the beginning.  We definitely got people talking with our unique take on a hip hop show, and we’re only going to keep it up with each upcoming showcase show.  Hope those of you that attended had a great time and I’ll leave you with a few pics I took from the night.  Look for the rest at the LemonDrop flickr page (once we officially set it up), along with youtube videos soon of the night.

Adios for now!

Hello all!

I just wanted to say a few words about the LemonDrop Dome Invasion last night. It was a pleasure having Jimmy Spits come down from Columbia and rhyme; he seriously tore the mic apart. The live art by Carl was amazing and really added an original touch to the show. Not to mention Chuckmo’s crazy visualizations and the Nicolage Cage Television Gondola. Oh yeah, and the abstract stylings of e$money and deep bass of The Nocturnal Doses. It was a fantastic experience, and I hope everyone that attended had as good a time as I did.

Also, we have a new member in the group–DJ Geeg–who will be providing not only tasty samples and cuts, but also a new dimension to the Spacetones’ live experience. Things are just going to get crazier from here, my friends. We hope you will join us for the ride.

Peace!
Casey

Dome Invasion is tonight at Randy Bacon’s, 7:30pm doors with $5 cover. On the agenda: live painting from our friend Carl, tv’s around the room showing only the finest in terrible Nicolas Cage movies, live DJ’ing by E$Money and The Nocturnal Doses, mad visualizations by Chuckmo himself, giant autograph board so everyone can leave their mark, plenty of mingling and conversation among LemonDrop strangers soon to be friends, and of course the crazy hip-hop stylings of Jimmy Spits and The Spacetones to end the night. See you all there!
