A New Post

October 29th, 2007 by chuckmo

Just for the sake of keeping this place interesting, here’s a new post! We’ve been pretty busy preparing for the Dome Invasion this Saturday… look for an article about it in the weekend section of the News Leader on Thursday!

I’ve been taking tons and tons of pictures and video, and I hope to actually do something with them soon. In the meantime, head over to my Flickr page and check them out. I usually just upload whatever’s on my iPhone every few weeks.

As for the video, I give you the following:

Hey Team, it’s Uncle Chuck

Take a knee, everybody, and let me indulge in you the state of affairs.

I pulled into overdrive these last 2 nights working on a new organizational back end for all parties involved with the label. I programmed up a contact manager and to-do list manager from scratch and then integrated them with the shows manager I made over the summer, which is MacGuyvered into the Wordpress Engine for user authentication and UI.

We’re also in the process of organizing a big Hip Hop Lemonparty at the Randy Bacon Gallery on Saturday, November 3rd. Jimmy Spits is coming down from Columbia to open for The Spacetones, but first we’re pre-partying with The Nocturnal Doses and e$money (at the Gallery. Sure, having the pre-party at the location of the actual-party may be unconventional, but I’d say we stray from convention as it is…)

In addition to planning the Lemonparty, I’ve been spending many hours recording/mixing with The Spacetones and Verbs for the last few weeks. We made a really slick interlude for the Spacetones’ record the other day. I posted it over on their MySpace page. I’ll have you know that this one is smooooother and thick all the way. Ugh-gh-g-gg-h-hh-g. And speaking of the Spacetones’ record, we met with Aaron Perkins to go over some sketches for the album art. You guys are in for a real treat. We liked it so much that we’re going to be printing posters and packaging it with the record! Aaron’s got some serious talent.

We also have all kinds of videos and pictures to share, and we plan on doing so in podcast form soon! I just need to scoop up some Adobe Premiere via my status as a student. But hey, overall I think it’s safe to say the the LemonDrop train is picking up steam.

P.S. I know what a Lemonparty is… it’s cool, I’m taking it back.

P.S.S. Check out what road I drove on this weekend! I kept falling off the sides and stuff, but I got a mushroom and jumped across the level at the one spot and got the silver!

A Whole Bunch of Live Videos

October 8th, 2007 by kevin

This last week I played three times over the course of three days. I hadn’t played a live show since last semester, so it felt great finally playing some live shows again. The first show was on Thursday when I played at Potter’s House. It went really well and that’s what the majority of these videos are from. Friday, Chuckmo and I played sets back to back and I got to play with a drummer. Definitely a first for me, but now that I’ve got Joe as my drummer, Chris will be on guitar/bass/whatever, LaComa on piano, and then possibly some horn and string players, my live shows are about to get a whole lot more interesting. Hopefully I can get a little Sufjan troop behind me for most of my shows. That would be amazing. But these videos are from Thursday and Friday’s shows. If you’ve only heard my low quality demos, then this should give you a better idea of how I sound live. Hopefully I get the band together a bunch here in the next month so we can start playing LemonDrop shows.

Enjoy!

Oh Yeah…We’re Finally Legit

October 3rd, 2007 by kevin

Now we just need contracts and we’ll be good to go from the business side. And no, they didn’t forget to assign us a License No. and Code No., I just used my crazy good Photoshop skills to clone them out. Can’t have our personal info floating around the net now can we? Welcome to LemonDrop Records LLC…an official business of Springfield, MO.

Upcoming Shows For Yours Truly

October 3rd, 2007 by kevin

All this business stuff for LemonDrop has been getting me eager to get out there a play some shows already, so this week I’m definitely taking care of that.  Tomorrow night at 9:30pm, I’m playing a solo acoustic set at Potter’s House.  It’s a small coffee house on National across the street from the MSU campus, more specifically across from Wells House.  That should be a good time and I’ll most likely have the beatmaster 5000 with me (my keyboard which I use only for its mad beats).

Show #2 is at Your Mom Fest on Friday from 2-3pm.  This show I’m super excited about because I’ll have an actual drummer accompanying me.  That’s unheard of for me considering I’ve played for two years with just me and a guitar and occasionally the beatmaster 5000.  So, we’ve got about five songs learned so far, and we’ll play those and throw in a few of the slower ones that don’t require drums to fill the time.  I’m definitely playing “The Cheesy Song” sometime in that set, which has always been a fan favorite.

Hopefully I’ll see some of you Springfield cats at either one of those shows as it’s my first couple shows in a long time, and if you have any questions or just want to contact me, just call my cell at 816-896-0565.

See whoever can make the shows there!

-Kevin
P.S.  All the more reason to check out Your Mom Fest…Chuckmo the Octopus (aka Charlie) is playing right before me from 1-2pm.  So you can catch both the LemonDrop kids’ solo stuff back to back.  I can’t think of anything cooler than that!  Except maybe that Radiohead’s giving their album away LemonDrop style and that we’ll be in the Springfield News-Leader in the same article as Radiohead.  Now THAT is cool.

I just got a call from the Springfield News Leader’s music and nightlife journalist, Michael Brothers, and we spoke for 20 minutes about LemonDrop. Someone on his blog mentioned us when he posted about Radiohead letting their fans pay whatever they want for the new album, so he called me for information about LemonDrop and to get my opinion on the whole thing.

Thanks BKan242, you’re the greatest.
