…just like we plan on doing with every album! Link
Well, I’ve been meaning to post for the last couple of days, but I have been a little too involved in putting the finishing touches on my new workstation, thanks to Chuckmo. I also got incredibly lucky and scored a copy of Halo 3 this past Saturday, so needless to say I have been a little preoccupied. I am extremely excited to be on LemonDrop, I think everybody involved with this project is so talented. I am honestly honored to be working with them. I have been working on finishing up my first album, it’s gonna be fire. I plan on collaborating with a few fellow LemonDrop artists. So be on the lookout for that soon. If you would like to listen to a new track off the album go to the good ole myspace. (www.myspace.com/nocturnaldoses)
Wow… 3 posts in one day. Crazy? Probably. Excessive? A mite. Is the sun gonna come up tomorrow? Bet your bottom dollar.
I’ve been working on my own stuff alot this past week. It’s mostly electronicy and/or hip hoppish. There’s a little of everything! Some glitch, fatty bass lines, and even a little electric guitar for good measure. Setting up a MySpace and sharing a few songs are on my to-do list, although label- and other-artist-stuff takes priority. I just work on it in my down time.
Oh, and I’ve commissioned Joe Mathlete to draw the album cover. Make sure you check out his previous work!
My apartment has seen a lot of action this last week or two. We’ve been laying down Spacetones tracks like no one’s business, and let me tell you that they bump pretty hard. Last night, I met with Chris Eubanks, our newest artist, to go over tracks he wanted to release. He’s got about 14 or 15 tracks picked out, and it’s going to be a tasty release. Be on the lookout for an introductory post from him later, as well as his integration into the site.
We also have a handful of bands that are interested in the label. Once we get the label running at full speed, we’ll be introducing them as we have the resources. Meanwhile, enjoy some pictures of goings-on in the padstead after the jump.

Today’s the big day for The Verbs, particularly Justin. We’re headed in to Studio2100 today to work with one of my favorite people in the world, the one and only Jeff Smith. We’ll be laying down drum tracks for their new record. Once we get those taken care of, we’ll record the rest of the instruments and of course the magical vocal stylings of Mike Moody here at my studio.
I’ll post some pictures of our day for your eager eyes later.
So, a week ago from yesterday, I turned 23. To celebrate, I made up a little Perch Mix of birthday related songs along with “I’m old” related songs. Now, Perch Mixes have become something all my readers wait for every week because it’s basically me saying here’s 12 or songs I absolutely love at the moment and everyone usually finds one or two songs in each mix they really just love and end up going out and checking out that band because of it…you know, exactly how things should be. Well, most of you may remember the story Charlie posted here on the LemonDrop blog a while back about how bands like the New Pornographers are hiring some Web Sheriff site (may be just one guy, who knows) and that it’s bad for the music industry because all he does is hunt down bloggers and tells them only to post songs they approved. Fair enough. But long story short, I posted a New Pornos track simply because it had the word “old” in it and three people even wrote me saying “oh, that’s what they sound like. They’re great and I’m going to check them out now”. I just did my job as a blogger unintentionally and promoted the New Pornos, getting them new fans without them asking me to. Something I live for. And how do I get rewarded? With this comment on my blog from the “web sheriff”:

First off, I don’t know if anything has been mentioned on the blog about our next LemonDrop Showcase show. If it has, well, then hearing it twice can’t hurt. Much to my delight, Justin over at Randy Bacon’s Gallery Sounds was more than happy to help us book a show there and after visiting with him during the last art walk for something like 5 minutes, we had the show officially booked. It was originally Sept. 30th with The Spacetones, The Verbs, and the third we just had to go looking for. Well, a few days later Charlie gets a call from them asking if it’d be cool if we move it up to Sept. 22nd and do a LemonDrop Showcase show with special guest Anders Parker. Now, I’m a big fan having seen him play there before, and having a touring act play with our bands is always good, so I’m plenty happy with that new update. So, here it is officially if you haven’t heard yet. September 22nd at Randy Bacon’s Gallery. The Spacetones, The Verbs, and special guest Anders Paker. Doors are at 7:30pm I believe and it’ll be $8 for everyone. So tell your underage friends it’s an all-ages show.
Business update after the jump…

I spent yesternight recording trash tracks with The Verbs on location at Justin’s padstead. We got 12 tracks laid down! The next step is to head in to Studio 2100 to record the drums, then it’s only a matter of time before we have all the other parts re-recorded at my place to the highest possible degree of excellence. We would do drums here, but they’re a whole other monster that deserves proper recording by someone with more experience (and funding) than myself.
More pictures from our joyous evening after the jump! Oh, and many apologies for the mediocre image quality… all I had was my phone.
