We’re Published!

Missouri State students should check out The Standard today, specifically the top of page 4, for there you’ll find a piece of riveting journalism of unparalleled magnificence.

Ok, so it’s just an article about us, but it’s very well-written nonetheless! For those of you too lazy to get a real copy and/or those who don’t have access to the trove of information provided by a physical copy of The Standard, you can read it online.

Justin of The Verbs, here. I just wanted to show my appreciation to the amazing LD artists who created the two flyers for the kick-off show this Thursday night. The designs are out of this world! I was absolutely blown away, and everyone I showed had nothing but good things to say about them. Apart from the musical side of LemonDrop, I’m really looking forward to seeing the outpour of artistic ability from Springfield. I hope their stuff graces t-shirts, stickers, posters, music videos, and whatever else they can draw, paint, or drag a mouse across. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone out at the show!

Seriously though. I couldn’t be happier with the fine work our two artist friends came up with. The first is a vintage looking poster from my high school friend Jeremy Peck. That design is currently plastered all over Missouri State campus flyer style. The second one my new friend Casey Waterman made. It was something like her 4th draft because she says she’s a perfectionist, but man, if this is the result of her being too perfect, then I’ll take it every time. I’m thinking of printing out a big poster just for myself to put up on my wall to represent the beginning of LemonDrop. It’s stuff like this that I’m talking about as far as helping artists is concerned. I wish we were bigger so Casey and Jeremy could have a lot of people looking at their work, but if I can help it, they’ll be frequent designers for LemonDrop and people will see how great of artists they really are. Great job you two and I’m excited just to be working with you.

just a few things

August 25th, 2007 by preston

if you’ve ever heard the reset album, don’t expect anything like it at shows.  the way the old stuff is played and the new stuff is incredibly killer.  everyone might as well wear brown pants to the show on the 30th.

by the way, there is a show on the 30th.  the verbs. great band. the spacetones. they make me want to dance. and reset. i’m biased.

props to the folks at lemondrop for everything they’re doing.  they truly do have a unique vision of what everything is to become.  be on the lookout for what they have in store.

listen to e-money.  he is good.  if you’re a fan of good things then e-money is for you.

I’ve Returned

August 21st, 2007 by chuckmo

For those of you out of the loop, I ended up taking an impromptu journey across the American West. I had a great time, but now it’s back to business, starting with preparations for our first show with all LemonDrop artists. As Kevin mentioned, next Thursday will be the official debut. We’re looking into t-shirts, too! More to come as the date approaches.

In other news, I think we’re finally ready to get this recording stuff started. Seriously this time.

The Weekly LemonDrop Update

August 20th, 2007 by kevin

Since I last posted, I’ve gone to a few shows, went on a float trip, attending an amazingly fun indie dance party, and a lot more, but one thing’s for sure…people are excited for LemonDrop to get started. It doesn’t hurt that everywhere I go I’m talking up LemonDrop making sure people know about us and I haven’t met a single person yet that isn’t excited to support our bands and our cause in general.

The main reason for this post is to update everyone on where we are as a label right now. We’ve got our first LemonDrop show lined up and I expect everyone and their mom to come out and show their LemonDrop pride. You can check our shows section for more details, but it’s going to be our three bands playing on Thursday, August 30th at Nathan P. Murphy’s. Ticket prices have yet to be determined, but it won’t be much I’m sure. I personally have been in talks with a good friend of Justin, The Verb’s drummer, named Dave Scholl and he took his excitement for our label a bit farther than most and actually contacted me saying he wanted to help. Dave has started a few companies on his own and definitely knows the ins and outs of business much more than I do, so of course I welcomed his help. So, we’ve had one meeting already and are meeting tomorrow and hopefully a very solid business plan will result in our collaboration. This is key to our initial success to establish our business foundation that everything will legitimately run on.

I’ve also got a few of my artist friends working on some posters for that first LemonDrop show, so look out for those later in the week hopefully, and posted around town to all you Springfield kids. Finally, I’ve been trying to gather a few of my musical friends to back me up live so I can start playing my own songs with a small band behind me. I don’t know if you guys have heard my low quality recordings, but Charlie and I are thinking of doing a Postal Service meets Sufjan Stevens sound once we get recording my stuff. I’m not up on the main page simply because I’m not really one of our artists at the moment. Later…yes, but for now it’s all about our three bands and supporting them. My time will come, but I’m more than excited to get my music out to you guys eventually as well.

So that’s the story morning glory for now. The first big LemonDrop event will be a week from this Thursday and then LemonDrop will really get going. I’ve spent the summer gathering an army of followers through my blog and word of mouth, and it’s all going to unfold here very soon. I hope you’re all ready to go, because you sure as heck know I am.

Here’s to LemonDrop, good music, and the community we shall undeniably become.

I’m Back…kind of

August 2nd, 2007 by kevin

What a summer.  60 hour workweeks doing sports photography for the little league world series definitely burns you out, but my co-workers were great and I had a good time overall.  But I’m back in Springfield now and have been doing LemonDrop stuff all week.  Charlie’s gone to camp for 2 weeks and after next week, LemonDrop will officially become our lives.  I’ve applied for a business license and need to look into tax stuff, but that’s all stuff I’ll really be working on once Charlie gets back.  My friend Chris called me earlier in the week wanting to know if I wanted to join them on a trip up to Wisconsin to visit a few old friends.  Considering I honestly haven’t had time to do anything fun this summer, I took him up on his offer.  So, I’ll be leaving Saturday morning super early, making a pit stop in Chicago to visit a friend I met two years ago through my blog and have yet to actually meet in person, then it’s up to Wisconsin for a week of fun.

I’ve been talking to a lot of people through my blog about LemonDrop and the interest in what we’re doing is definitely there.  We were featured in a Swedish magazine, which I don’t exactly know what resulted from that interview, but the guy says it was in the magazine and since they don’t have a website and they’re in Sweden, I’ll just have to take their word for it.  Add to that a few interviews I’ve done for blogs and magazines alike, and it seems the little promotional machine that is me seems to be working over time.  But that’s how it’s going to be.  With our business model, we’re going to attract much needed attention among people in the music industry, and I absolutely can’t wait for it to finally happen.  So, that’s my situation.  Been doing some of the business stuff in order to make us truly a legit business, and promoting the heck out of the label to anyone that’ll listen.  Most recently, someone at Playmusic Magazine, a cool online music magazine, sent me a question to respond to and should be featured in some way in their August issue.  I can’t say for sure if all of it, or just a few quotes will be in the magazine until I actually see it, but I figured I’d share it here since it’s a brief view on my thoughts on the industry and what we’re all about.  Hope you enjoy the read and I’ll see most of you in a couple weeks when Charlie returns and everything, from the recording of all the bands to getting our army of artists making LemonDrop and band t-shirts, finally gets up and running.  The LemonDrop revolution is about to begin and I couldn’t be more excited.
